Mednax announces takeover of two US practices
Thursday 05 April 2012

5 April 2012 – US medical group Mednax Inc (NYSE:MD) said today it had taken over physician group practice Burlington Anesthesia PLLC and paediatric cardiology practice Farhouch Berdjis MD Medical Corp (FBMC), without giving financial details about the transactions.

The two deals were paid in cash, Mednax said in a press release, adding that the acquisitions were seen to immediately build on the company's earnings.

The Burlington practice comprises six anesthesiologists that offer services at Alamance Regional Medical Center and Pioneer Ambulatory Surgery Center. They will join Mednax's American Anesthesiology division, which consists of over 900 anesthesia providers.

On the other hand, FBMC delivers various inpatient and outpatient services including echocardiograms, heart catheterisations, consultations and stress tests. Its acquisition will add two cardiologists and six other clinical and administrative staff members to Mednax's Pediatrix Medical Group segment. The California-based practice, related to 11 hospitals in the area, was established by Farhouch Berdjis and James Chu. It is the only group in Orange County that was cleared for the Melody heart valve procedure and also the first one to receive accreditation for echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), Mednax said.

Taking into consideration the two deals, Mednax has added four physician group practices to Pediatrix and one to American Anesthesiology this year.
