American Media Mulls Sale of Newsprint Tabloids Including National Enquirer

15 April 2019 - US-based publisher American Media, LLC's board concluded its strategic operational review of its tabloid business, which began last August, and has resulted in the decision to explore strategic options for its National Enquirer (US and UK editions), Globe and National Examiner brands, which will likely result in their sale in the near future, the company said.

American Media has seen significant growth in the past two years with the acquisitions of Us Weekly, Men's Journal, Bauer's US celebrity and teen publications, and the most recent acquisition of media assets comprising TEN: Publishing's Adventure Sports Network.

The addition of ASN's 14 adventure and sports brands makes American Media the sixth largest sports media brand in the world, delivering more than 60m monthly video views.

The company has also continued to grow its experiential marketing and events division.

In addition to its ownership of Joe Weider's Olympia Fitness and Performance Expo, and international series of Olympia events, the company added the newly acquired production assets from TEN Publishing, including action sports events, allowing American Media to further deliver unique and creative opportunities to engage with a young and passionate audience.

American Media, LLC owns and operates the leading print and digital celebrity and active lifestyle media brands in the United States.

The company's titles include Us Weekly, Star, OK!, In Touch, Life and Style, Closer, Men's Journal, Muscle and Fitness, Powder, Snowboarder, Surfer, Bike, Olympia Contest, National Enquirer and other celebrity and teen titles.

American Media also manages nineteen different digital sites including Usmagazine.com, OKmagazine.com, RadarOnline.com, Intouchweekly.com, Lifeandstylemag.com, Closerweekly.com, MensJournal.com, MuscleandFitness.com, Powder.com, Surfer.com and other digital and social properties.

American Media's magazines have a combined total circulation of 5.7+ m and reach approximately 49.4m men and women each month. American Media's digital properties reach approximately 65m unique visitors monthly.
